Then we are looking for you! As a proactive and hands-on Senior Legal Counsel, you play a crucial role in handling a wide variety of legal matters at Enza Zaden.

You will be part of the Legal Team where you will have a focus on R&D and regulatory matters. You will work closely together with the IP Team on all kinds of IP related agreements such as material transfer, collaboration, and licensing agreements. You will be in the lead in supporting R&D to ensure compliance of the Nagoya protocol and related legislation.

Together with the Global Manager Legal you will identify legal risks and develop strategies to manage these risks, monitor pertinent legal developments and provide guidance to management and other internal departments. 

You are flexible in picking up other work for the Legal Team in other areas that require support. This can be the handling of claims, drafting and negotiating agreements (e.g. procurement, sales and distribution) or a specific project to further optimize the ways of working or processes for the Legal Team.

Your expertise in the field ensures that you can effectively translate legal requirements into practice either by drafting contracts or providing advice to the business. Within our growing international organization your keen insights will contribute to the development and improvement of legal processes, templates, reports, and documentation. You will stay in close contact with your stakeholders within R&D, Seed Regulatory Affairs and the total Legal department. 

Requirements

In your role as Legal Counsel, you are expected to proactively align with the business and translate this alignment into legal solutions. You are a real team player both within the Legal Team as well as cross functional. Exceptional communication and advisory skills, as well as a strong understanding of relationships, are essential. You possess persuasiveness, excellent planning, and organizational abilities, and have:

• A completed academic degree in Law and 5-8 years of relevant experience in-house as part of an international organisation or in an (international) law firm.

• Knowledge of research & development agreements. Green fingers are not required but knowledge of or an affinity with agricultural and biotech environments is very welcome.

• An independent, result-oriented mindset, and strong advisory skills. In addition, you like to get your teeth into solving legal questions.

• Enthusiasm, positive energy, and an entrepreneurial spirit.

• Proficiency in foreign language (e.g., an Eastern European language, Spanish or Indian) is a plus.

• Excellent command of English, both written and spoken.
