Lab Assistant for Sciences (Technische Onderwijs Assistent)

When you work in ESH's Science Departments as a lab assistant, you will be part of a multicultural team consisting of four TOAs supporting passionate science teachers in four language sections. We value teamwork and a culture of collaboration in which we are all lifelong learners. Our teachers aim to deliver engaging practical lessons in Biology, Integrated Science, Chemistry and Physics, and need your support to prepare the materials in advance. We are looking for a lab assistant able to support preparing experiments in Biology and Integrated Science, but who can also help in Physics or Chemistry when required.

As a TOA you will assist the Science departments (Biology, Chemistry, Integrated Science and Physics) with different tasks such as:

· Preparing experiments and practical demonstrations.

· Testing experiments where necessary to ensure they can be delivered successfully in class.

· Consulting with teachers and providing advice on practical activities and demonstrations.

· Developing and refining practical experiments and demonstrations.

· Advising teachers on laboratory safety procedures and classroom safety rules.

· Carrying out minor repairs to laboratory equipment and materials.

· Managing laboratory stock and ordering equipment and consumables.

· Attending meetings with teachers and fellow TOAs.

· Maintaining a clean, organised and well-equipped laboratory, including accurate inventory management and labelling.

· Supporting teachers in supervising larger classes during practical lessons.

Requirements

· Relevant qualifications in a science discipline (such as Biology, Chemistry or Physics) and/or a Technical Education Assistant qualification (MBO Level 4 or equivalent).

· Sound knowledge of science education within a school environment.

· Excellent written and spoken English.

· Good ICT skills and the ability to work with educational technology.

· Knowledge of laboratory safety regulations and health and safety procedures.

· Recent experience as a technical teaching assistant (TOA) in secondary education is desirable.

· Experience in an international and/or intercultural educational environment is an advantage.

· Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

· Proactive, reliable and able to take initiative.

· Well organised, resourceful and solution-oriented.

· Patient, approachable and supportive.

· Living in the Netherlands with a working permit
