What are you going to do ?
As an intern in Cell Biology, you will work together with researchers at the Cell Biology and related departments. Your main objective during your internship will be to set up and optimize a protocol in the field of genome editing or doubled haploid technology. To achieve your goal, you will dive into literature and consult your colleagues at ENZA Zaden, ultimately leading to an experiment proposal and testing in laboratory environment.
Due to your inquisitive and persistent nature, you are able to determine the right approach by testing different techniques and parameters. Because you prove yourself to be a future researcher, Enza Zaden will be able to move forward in this interesting subject! You will be of great value to the (Senior) Researcher Cell Biology, who is also your supervisor.
Department
At Cell Biology (CB) we cooperate with Breeding and other Biotechnology departments to deliver plants with various genetic value. Within research, we focus on developing protocols that enable us to copy, fix and generate new genetics. Once we have established these protocols, we work closely with our production team to run them in a routine environment and transforming these protocols into products that can be used by the various Breeding/Biotechnology teams. We have experience in doubled haploid production, micropropagation, plant transformation, mutagenesis, protoplast-based technologies and embryo rescue. We are keen on expanding our technology portfolio by exploring advances in the above-mentioned techniques as well as adding new crops.
Your power
Driven by your curiosity you like to dig into a challenging research question. You love to find out how biological processes exactly work while keeping practical applicability in mind. You want to learn more about plant & cell biology and about how this field of research can contribute to the generation of vegetable varieties. Of course, you are also able to work accurately, as you are dealing with sensitive protocols and live cells. It is easy for you to maintain focus, keep an eye on the end-goal and deliver results. Since you will work in an international team, you are eager to work and learn together.
In short, you:
are a BSc/MSc plant-/cell- biology or biotechnology student;
have laboratory and sterile handling experience;
are interested in plant biology and breeding;
are an independent worker;
are available for a period of minimal 6 months, preferably starting in September/October 2024
speak English fluently,
enjoy working in an international team.
