This is why you want to join us as Intern Cell and Plant Technology at Enza Zaden
As an intern at Cell and Plant Technology (CPT), you will work together with researchers at CPT and related departments. Your main objective during your internship will be to set up and optimize a protocol in the field of Doubled Haploid Technology. To achieve your goal, you will dive into literature and consult your colleagues at Enza Zaden, ultimately leading to an experimental proposal and testing in laboratory environment.
Due to your inquisitive and persistent nature, you are able to determine the right approach by testing different techniques and parameters. With the results of your research, Enza Zaden will be able to move forward in this interesting subject! You will be of great value to the (Senior) Researcher Cell and Plant Technology, who is also your supervisor.
Department
At Cell and Plant Technology we cooperate with Breeding and other Biotechnology departments to deliver plants with various genetic value. Within research, we focus on developing protocols that enable us to copy, fix and generate new genetics as well as to accelerate plant life cycles. Once we have established these protocols, we work closely with our applications team to run them in a routine environment and transforming these protocols into products that can be used by the various Breeding/Biotechnology teams. We have experience in doubled haploid production, micropropagation, plant transformation, mutagenesis, protoplast-based technologies, embryo rescue and speed breeding. We are keen on expanding our technology portfolio by exploring advances in the above-mentioned techniques as well as adding new crops.
Your Power
Driven by your curiosity, you like to dig into a challenging research question. You love to find out how biological processes work while keeping practical applicability in mind. You want to learn more about plant & cell biology and how this field of research can contribute to the generation of new vegetable varieties. Of course, you are also able to work accurately, as you are dealing with sensitive protocols and live cells. It is easy for you to maintain focus, keep an eye on the end-goal and deliver results. Since you will work in an international team, you are eager to work and learn together.
In Short, You:
· are an HBO/BSc plant-/cell- biology or biotechnology student;
· have laboratory and sterile handling experience;
· are interested in plant biology and breeding;
· are an independent worker with initiative;
· have a data-driven mindset
· are available for a period of minimal 6 months, preferably starting in February 2026
· speak English fluently and enjoy working in an international team.
