This is why you want to join us as Assistant Breeder Cucumber at Enza Zaden
Hands-on experience in a dynamic breeding environment where innovation meets nature.
Smart and precise work: your eye for detail and curiosity will directly contribute to the development of future cucumber varieties.
Supportive team culture: work closely with experienced breeders and technicians who are passionate about their craft.
Make a difference as Assistant Breeder Cucumber
As an Assistant Breeder, you’ll play a key role in supporting our cucumber breeding program during a maternity leave period of 6 months. Your work will be a mix of hands-on greenhouse tasks and precise data administration.
Learn how a breeding program works and support the breeding team with the daily activities.
Perform evaluations in the greenhouse: collect qualitative and quantitative traits in cucumber plants and fruits (e.g. assess plant vigour, measure size and evaluate fruit quality, etc.).
Enter data accurately into Excel files and breeding databases.
Support the breeder with simple scoring rounds and trait evaluations.
Collaborate with the team to ensure smooth trial execution and data collection.
You’ll be part of a dedicated breeding team based in Enkhuizen, working closely with breeders and technicians. You’ll report to the Senior Breeder Cucumber and be surrounded by colleagues who are just as curious and detail-oriented as you are.
What you bring as a future colleague
Bachelor's degree level of thinking

You are curious and observant — you enjoy discovering patterns and asking questions.
You are comfortable working with Excel and digital tools for data entry.
You have an interest in plants, breeding, or horticulture — experience is a plus, but not a must.
You are a team player who communicates clearly and works well with others.
You are smart and eager to learn — you pick things up quickly and take initiative.
English is necessary, Dutch is a pre.
This is a temporary position for a duration of 6 months. You are available to start on September 1st.
