Are you the link between breeders and researchers? To reinforce the discovery, validation and implementation of strategic traits in the Leafy Breeding department we are looking for a Biotech Breeder.

What are you going to do?

You support our international breeding team with molecular tools to speed up the development of strategic traits. You are responsible for the development of pre-breeding material that provides our Leafy Breeders with high-quality breeding material.
Thanks to your excellent planning, you organize, design, and execute various projects while connecting with our Leafy Breeders worldwide. 

You play a central role in projects (in some cases as project lead), working partly from your desk but also in the greenhouse and the field. This means you will perform data analysis combining molecular data (generated by your lab colleagues) with the phenotypic data collected in the greenhouse or in the field. You will translate your result in tools, advises and decisions for future breeding cycles.
You are part of the Leafy Breeding department, consisting of experienced (Biotech) Breeders. The common goal is an innovative and high-quality range of varieties for our customers. 
You will work daily together with colleagues of other departments, ranging from Biotech Breeders of different crops to Researchers, Data Scientists and Crop Workers in the greenhouse and field.
 
You report to the Manager Biotech Breeding Leafy.

You are passionate about genetics and enjoy analyzing and improving processes. In your work as a Biotech Breeder you can work independently and accurately in order to translate scientific information into applications for a business environment. You are organized and you have a hands-on approach. Your natural curiosity drives you to investigate and come to conclusions followed by practical and timely advice. You come up with creative solutions fitting the situational needs, so you like thinking ‘out of the box’. Your attitude is analytic and proactive, and your interpersonal skills allow you to enjoy the Enza Zaden spirit.

Your flexible mindset allows you to switch between activities and reprioritize when needed. Thanks to your excellent communication skills, you connect easily with people on multiple levels and take a position based on relevant arguments for improvements in the process chain. You enjoy teamwork and you can easily adapt to different backgrounds of your multidisciplinary teams. You have experience with project management involving different parties and you can handle some time pressure.
Traveling abroad (2-3 times a year) will be part of the job.

In short, you:

• have a MSc degree (for example in Plant Science, Breeding or Biotechnology) and preferably 3-5 years relevant working experience;

• have good communication skills in English, Dutch is a plus;

• have excellent analytical skills (experience in R is required);

• are a process minded and highly organized individual with attention to details, quality, and continuous improvements.

• have excellent planning skills with a strong sense of urgency to meet deadlines and get things done;

• have knowledge in the field of genetics/plant breeding, biotechnology, molecular biology and markers, preferably with experience in breeding companies.
